The Cranbrook Spa in Michigan has been designed to serve as a peaceful retreat from the urban life, providing connectivity with nature through open views and indoor/outdoor transitional spaces with pools and saunas.
Built of a sloping hill, the spa is accessed through a glass lobby with shading louvers at the ceiling, allowing for 360 degree views into the natural environment around the spa.
Beyond and underneath the lobby are the intimate spaces for quiet contemplation and reflection, spas for rejuvenation and healing and rooms for overnight stay. Natural materials and use of sunlight, along with careful usage of accent lighting provide distinctly different spaces that are connected to the nature beyond the confines of their walls.
